She went from "I don't need another title, I have one" (Professor, PhD) to, well, acquiring another title.

He really needs to stop getting married. He just isn't very good at it.

I have to wonder if any of the wives would have married him if he weren't an earl with a massive estate and so closely related to the monarchy.

I'm sure none would have given Charles a second look without the assets you mentioned Martha.
Well, they've been "together" for 5 years pre-marriage, I give the happily married couple about 2 yr. before it goes south. Charles Spencer is not marriage material, no matter his estate, money and being close to the monarchy.
