More trouble for Norwegian royals?

Support for the royal family in this formerly staunch monarchist country has slumped from 70 per cent to 53 per cent, with one-third of the population now calling for a republic.

And all that is ahead of the publication later this year of a book investigating whether, in fact, the Norwegian royals have any right to sit on the throne at all.

The charge against them is that in 1902, Princess Maud of Wales - married to the future King - employed a sperm donor to produce a son and heir for the Norwegian throne.

That son, Prince Olav, was born in 1903 at Appleton House at Sandringham, and succeeded to the throne as King Olav V in 1957. He died in 1991 and his son King Harald, 88, now occupies the throne.

That story about Maud crops up from time to time. Maud was treated by a fertility specialist--a Dr who had treated other high-born women with success--and gave birth to Olav two years before Norway split from Sweden and offered the throne to her husband.

On a slow day there's always an "heir" story to revisit. I do find it interesting that the doctor's son, not the doctor, was given honors and a position that seemed unearned. We'll never know the truth as the royals won't subject themselves to a DNA test.

I thought she would address the earlier speculative articles on the subject. This story pops up every ten years or so. I'm surprised no one has brought up the photo of the alleged "real father."

I think we're about due for the secret love child of the late Princess Margaret to pop up again. There's also the heir of the secret son of Edward VIII, born pre-Wallis and passed off at the legitimate heir of one of his married lovers. So many secret heirs I can't keep track of them.

There's that woman in Tennessee who claims to be David and Wallis's secret daughter, too. We haven't heard from her in a couple of years. And isn't there some dude in Australia or South Africa who's made the same claim? Or we could wait and see if Albert of Monaco has another out of wedlock child...

What happened to that last claim against Albert - it was a 15 year-old girl that wrote a letter about "why won't you see me"? Heartbreaking if her mother has been lying to her, but just as bad if she's being ignored and Albert really is her father. But that one seems to have evaporated. I did a search and found nothing beyond the first articles. If she was willing to publish her letter as a teenager, as an adult she would probably be willing to push for recognition if the paternity test came back showing Albert as her father. One thing is certain, the Grimaldi family never failed to disappoint when it came to scandal. They were reliable as the Farmer's Almanac, with new scandals every spring/summer.

The Belgians stepped up, briefly. Delphine is treated politely but I doubt she hangs out with any of the family other than Laurent. He's another class act.

But getting back to the Norwegians, I really am surprised but not surprised that Mette-Marit maintained any kind of friendship with Epstein. Considering what she went through to rehab her image and earn some respect from the public (and message boards) it boggles the mind to think she jeopardized it by playing cutesy with a known/convicted p3dophile. That doesn't say much for her. She's created a lot of stress for herself which won't help her medical problems.

There's the guy in either the UK or Australia that claims he's the secret love child of Charles and Camilla, he was going to court to force Charles to submit a DNA sample, that went away. We haven't heard from him.
The 15 yr. girl that wrote to Albert, was that the woman and her daughter from Brazil? That popped up again when Charlene was in South Africa for her extended stay. The story suddenly went quiet, I wonder if the woman got a quiet pay off/settlement?

What a arrogant, entitled piece of dirt. I called Marius other names under my breath, not repeatable here. Marius and Mette-Marit really gave the Royal Family a black eye. Add Durek with the sexual assault allegations against him and it's so disgusting that this happened to the King and Queen.
Ingrid Alexandra and her Instagram post, I don't think helped either. She was perfectly entitled to post her opinion on her private account, but it got leaked out and the public more than likely was less than happy.
