The Duchess of Edinburgh and The Duke of Kent joined forces at the University of Surrey

On 28 January 2026 visted the University of Surrey on a joint engagement. The Duke of Kent is also marking 50 years as Chancellor of the University.

They do look like they're enjoying the visit and each other's company very much. That must be a wonderful school to get so much royal attention.

People who have met the Duke of Kent always talk of how kind and courteous he is--a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He and Sophie have clearly formed a close bond, especially since she has taken on some of his closest patronages and charities. The Duke looks frail but in good spirits here.

Both have the talent of putting people at ease while showing a genuine interest in their visits. They have the "hands on" approach and this provided a model for the younger royals.
