Thieves break into Louvre and steal jewels

The whole thing lasted around seven minutes, so this thing was planned for a long time. Among the jewels stolen were ones belonging to Empress Eugenie. Her emerald and diamond tiara was later found outside the Louvre, but was reportedly broken. The thiefs specifically targeted the room where the French Crown Jewels were displayed.

This is heartbreaking. The stolen jewels were valuable pieces of history. I hope the French police can catch the thieves and retrieve the stolen items.

It almost makes me sick to my stomach. This could have been prevented, a terrible breach of security.

It was an astonishingly brazen theft. There's no word if the one item recovered, Empress Eugenie's tiara, can be repaired or not. I think these thieves are planning to break apart the jewels and sell the stones. They brought their own lift--that's how prepared they were. Where are the security cameras? They should have been all over the outside as well as the inside.

Various experts were interviewed on the media today and all stated that it was probably a professional criminal gang that pulled off the heist. The jewels were probably out of the country shortly after they were stolen to sell to private individuals with vast fortunes, either Russia or China or both, but there could be anyone with a huge sum of money to buy any of the jewels to keep in their personal safes or bank vault. They all stated their belief that any chance for recovery are nil.
