Lady Antonia Fraser's biography is excellent (as we should expect from her). Fun fact: Marie Antoinette was descended from Mary, Queen of Scots.

Yes, Marie Antoinette is the 5x great-daughter of Mary Queen of Scots.

Mary Queen of Scots, James VI & I, Queen Elizabeth of Bohemia, Charles Louis I of the Palatinate, Elizabeth Charlotte of the Palatineate, Elisabeth Charlotte d'Orleans, Francis I of Hapsburg-Lorraine, Queen Marie Antoinette.

Mary's descendants include most of the Royal families of Europe. Marie Antoinette wasn't the only descendant to have lost their head. Charles I got the chop in 1649. Tsaritsa Alexandra didn't lose her head, but was still killed. I know there have been others, but I can't think of them right now.
