1903 - Prince Alexander Edward Christian Frederik of Denmark was born at Appleton House on the royal Sandringham Estate the only child of HRH Prince Carl of Denmark and his wife HRH Princess Maud of Wales. Alexander became heir apparent to the Norwegian throne when his father was elected King of Norway in 1905. His father took the name Haakon VII and on the day he was inaugurated Haakon gave his son the name Olav.
