1972 - Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH Charles, The Prince of Wales visited the Duke of Windsor at his home in Paris, while on a State Visit to France, where they were greeted by the Duchess of Windsor. This would be the last time the Queen would see her uncle as he died 10 days later less than a month before his 78th birthday. He was to frail to appear for the offical photo call.

HM was seen in tears as she left her uncle's home. She knew he was dying and that this would be the last time she would ever see him. She was extremely touched that he'd insisted on sitting in a chair for her visit, with his IV hidden. I can't remember whether he struggled to his feet to bow to HM or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had.
