1707 - Following the enactment of the Acts of Union which joined the Kingdoms of England and Scotland to form Great Britain, Queen Anne became known as HM Queen Anne of Great Britain a Title she maintained until her death in early August 1714. The union took effect and resulted in a single parliament, the Parliament of Great Britain, and a combined national identity. A few financial incentives appear to have convinced some dithering Scottish MPs of the potential benefits of a union with England. In the words of Robbie Burns, Scotland was “bought and sold for English gold”
