2002 - Princess Margaret The Countess of Snowdon died at King Edward VII's Hospital in London after having suffered another stroke that resulted in cardiac problems. It's argued that her most enduring legacy is that perhaps unwittingly she paved the way for the public acceptance of royal divorce. This made the decisions and choices of her nephews and neice easier than they otherwise would have been.

Margaret was very beautiful as a child, then as a young woman and as she aged until her lifestyle caught up with her. My favorite anecdote by Truman Capote is when HRH and Elizabeth Taylor were on the same flight. Miss Taylor was showing her fabulous diamond ring, the diamond bought by Richard Burton, to the rest of the passengers and to the flight attendants. Margaret pointedly made a statement about large gems and how vulgar they were. Everyone heard it, of course. Miss Taylor asked HRH if she would like to put the ring on and Margaret obliged her. As Margaret was admiring the ring, Elizabeth quipped, "Not so vulgar now is it?" Elizabeth Taylor was the only person who could get away with it. Great photos Karen and Nellie.
