Wow. This young man just plain doesn't get it, does he? I realize no one would like to see their child in this situation, but I certainly hope Mette-Marit doesn't try to make excuses for this again and sees that he gets help(not necessarily legal) in addition to whatever a court may lay on him. He seems to need the full weight of legal punishment to fall upon him. Maybe that would wake him up

My heart goes out to MM and Haakon and their two younger children. They must all be devestated. How did the sweet, cheeky little boy grow up to be this horrible person?

Marius needs to be punished by the fullest extent of the law. He also needs intensive therapy. I have a feeling it may not work, though, and I'm very worried about what he'll do in the future.

In Australia we still wait for people to be convicted of crimes before deciding that they need to be punished.

Well, this latest news will, more than likely, drop the Royal Family's popularity with the public another 15-20 points.
We have the news of Marius, Durek, then Marius again with the added news of Mette-Marit's possible interference with Maevidence. All this dropped on the King and Queen.
Apparently the story last week in the DM stating that Haakon and Marius traveling to London, Marius possibly entering rehab, was either not true or Marius checked himself out of trx. since he wasn't under any formal court order.
Marius does have serious problems with substance abuse, violence and psychological issues. Look at MM's family. His father Martin was in prison for drugs and being a drug lord, violence was "probably" involved. MM's father was not exactly stable. Her brother has a history of domestic violence. Mette-Marit was quite young when she became pregnant with Marius and admitted to drug use. It's possible that before she knew she was pregnant, she could have consumed drugs and alcohol to the extent that it affected her fetus. (my speculation only,not a fact). This all adds up and then add a healthy dose of entitlement that Marius seemed to have acquired as he grew older.
He's made a mess of his life, no doubt and he'll have to pay one way or another.
In addition, I read in another article that Mette-Marit and Marius have had a "rocky" relationship for some time and it has worsened the last year.

Whether or not Marius is convicted of any of the charges he faces, Karenl, he certainly seems to have a record of behaving badly. My point, really, is simply that before we start wishing for punishments, we might wait for a conviction. It is an important principle which should apply to him, even if he appears to be thoroughly unpleasant.

Allegations, even against privileged young men, can be false and need to be proven, rather than assumed to be true.

But I agree that the potential consequences for the Royal Family's standing, that you outline, are indeed serious.

There is a second rape charge, another domestic abuse charge plus a second violating a restraining order.
"The Oslo County Court ordered Wednesday night that Høiby be held in custody for at least a week while police continue to investigate all the expanded charges against him. The latest is a second rape charge disclosed by police on Wednesday involving another young woman who was incapable of defending herself.

Prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski told reporters at the courthouse that the two new rape charges prompted police to seek court approval to jail Høiby for the next two weeks. After several hours of deliberation, the court went along with one week with a ban on any visitors or mail, but as in all custody cases, that may be extended as the police investigation proceeds."
This is a nightmare.

Add all this up,toss in what Marius has already admitted to... It's horrible. The evidence is very clear. I hope he gets the maximum sentence possible.
