1887 - Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg was born. The Princess was born at Balmoral Castle and she was the 2nd child and eldest daughter of Princess Beatrice and Prince Henry of Battenberg.

In May 1906 at the Royal Monastery of San Jerónimo in Madrid she married King Alfonso XIII of Spain and became Queen Victoria Eugénie of Spain.

Ena had so many tragedies during her life, including the attempted assassination on her wedding day, the death of one brother during WWI (somewhere there is a photo of her visiting Maurice's grave after the war), the death of another due to haemophilia, her own sons' illnesses, civil war... How she survived it all is a mystery.
