The King and Queen will visit Australia and Samoa

Their Majesties The King and Queen will undertake an Autumn Tour from Friday 18th – Saturday 26th October 2024. This will include a Royal Visit to Australia, State Visit to The Independent State of Samoa and attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.

The program for Australia looks as though it aligns with their genuine interests so that is something to be glad for.
Though perhaps the barbeque is a bit of a stretch.

On second thoughts the barbeque is probably the best way to arrange a meet and greet event for a very large number of ordinary Australians.
The food could range over just about anything anyone might wish for.
For dress code I would suggest smart casual. I wonder if the King has anything to match that. We know Queen Camilla does wear jeans.

I wonder about the significance of the Prime Minister (a republican) having himself described as "Mr" rather than "The Hon". I also think that the program includes too many Indigenous-themed engagements (three plus the inevitable 'Welcome to Country' at Parliament House and, possibly, at every other event they attend) for less than four per cent of the population.

Like Nellie, below, I think the barbecue is a good way for The King and Queen to meet a range of people in an informal setting. It's not The KIng's first barbecue and I'm sure he'll dress down

Actually I did think the program was somewhat overweight with indigenous occasions.

And JohnW, I wonder what you have in mind for "dress down".
One of the King's well-worn doublebreasted and patched, grey day suits?

I think the barbecue is a wise and practical choice. The King and Queen will be meeting a large number of people and there's still HM's cancer diagnosis and the danger of picking up a respiratory infection or some infection. There's a wide open airy venue for HM.

Maybe casual khaki or blue slacks with a lightweight button down shirt and casual jacket? I don't know, the King can be pretty set in his way with clothing.

I'm locking this thread and deleting some posts.

It's one thing to express the opinion that a diproportionate amount of time is allotted to one segment of the population. It's quite another to mock the culture of that population.

Frankly, those sorts of remarks we've heard come out of the mouth of the King's younger son. And I don't recall anybody thinking it was funny then. Quite the opposite.
