On this Easter Sunday afternoon I have just finished watching "A Royal Grand Design" on TV. It is about Prince Charles' (as he was) huge undertaking to form a consortium to restore Dumfries House, with its furnishings intact.
The project included fostering industries and trades related to restoration of the estate in what had been quite a deprived area of the UK. There was work for conservationists, architects, craftsmen, and gardeners working on a walled garden, an ornamental area and a community garden. It includes a teaching gardem where children learn where food comes from and how to grow it.
He was "most proud of bringing work and hope to the local community".
I'm just so impressed by his vision and perseverance in such an ambitious project being for the benefit of the community of people in the district, and others who came from further afield to work in many areas of specialisation.
