"She asked before Christmas to officially be considered a royal by her government - and now the love child of King Albert II of Belgium has shared a 'Never Give Up' shawl design on Instagram.
Artist Princess Delphine, 53, formerly known as Delphine Boël, took to her social media account on Tuesday to promote her wearable art.
She posted a snap of herself holding up her €495 graffiti-style scarf which features the phrases 'when the system is corrupt', 'when the future looks f*****' and 'when the going gets tough'."
"........Her lawyer, Marc Uyttendaele, has since penned a letter to Alexander De Croo, the Prime Minister of Belgium, insisting that she is invited to state occasions and treated with the same respect as Astrid and Laurent, reported The Times.
'My client has been worried for months about her role in official events,' wrote the lawyer, explaining that the princess is only invited to a few occasions.
He added: 'But even there, she is treated differently from her brother and sister. It is simply a question of respect.'
The lawyer went onto state that she has no interest in a financial endowment, in a reference to her siblings annual allowances of more than €260,000.
However the prime minister argued that Delphine is a private citizen and the royal family have official duties at these functions.
He said: 'The people who are invited to these events are people who have official functions in our country, part of the royal family has an official function. Princess Delphine does not have one.' " The PM is correct. Delphine still is a private citizen. She got what she wanted from the King and now she believes she's entitled to more. She's not. Supposedly, Laurent and Delphine are supposed to be close, I wonder if he's also urging her to go after these demands. That's another thing, that takes a lot of nerve for Delphine not to ask/request, but demand her wishes be allowed. She's not anywhere in a position to demand. I just thought of it, her mother probably is pushing this, too.
First she just wanted to meet with Albert, then she wanted legal recognition and a title, then she wanted to meet the family, then she wanted to be included at family events, now she wants “a role” at official events. Demanding “respect” via a letter from her lawyer? This won’t end and Albert can blame only himself for saddling his family with this woman.
Why do you call her "that woman"? She has every right to be recognized the same way his"legitimate" children are. We don' t live in the past century any more!
I referred to her as “this woman” as the subject of the sentence.
Delphine has been increasing her demands to the point of demanding a role at official events. She does not have the temperament or training to be in a position of representing her country among statesmen. It has nothing to do with the circumstances of her birth but how she conducts herself as an adult.
Delphine has been recognized. What she now wants, however, is to have an official role and be subsidized by the government. That is, in my opinion, a non starter. What's next, demanding that she be the heir instead of Elisabeth? No, Delphine should stop this pursuit .
Delphine was never illegitimate. Jacques Boel adopted her as his legal daughter and provided a very well off life for both Delphine and her mother. Delphine never lacked for anything despite she and her mother trying to portray her as the poor little match girl. Her legal father was far wealthier than the Belgian Royal Family. Well, somewhere along the line, something went wrong and Delphine's legal father disowned her and bye bye to any money that may have come from him. First, she just wanted to be recognized as Albert II's daughter, that did happen and now she wants the "official" perks...and as Hollie mentioned, an allowance from the Govt. paid by the Belgian taxpayers. No. The PM made it clear, Delphine is a private citizen. If Delphine was given an official role, then there would be something else she would demand, it stops somewhere.
She wants to attend a formal event and wear a tiara. Plus jewels, and she’ll need a sash with that. Do the other women have honors? She’ll need one of those, too.
