Prinjesdag In The Netherlands

...or now it's Budget Day. Amalia looks so much like Beatrice in some of the photos. Alexia's gown is too tight and Maxima wore trousers. The old days are gone, Laurentien and Constantijn are a joy to see.

Amalia looks regal. Laurentien looks good. Alexia needs to learn about good foundation garments. Maxima is oh dear lord.

I think Amalia is the image of her great-great grandmother Wilhelmina.

I have to add I think Maxima's won the shower curtain award and then some with her ode to the jungle outfit. That thing on her head looks like one of my grandmother's old swimming caps.

I'm just confused here. It's an important day and an important ceremony.

Alexia looks like she's wearing booty pads under her dress. She looks very relaxed, maybe because she's not the heir.

Amalia looks regal, but still a bit uncomfortable. Is she basically a shy person who doesn't like the limelight or is she trying not to laugh at her sister and mother? Is she wearing her mother's old brown paper bag hat?

Maxima. Her hair is neat and she's gorgeous as usual, but what is she wearing? Let's just call it jaw-dropping and leave it at that.

I don't think Amalia is naturally comfortable in front of crowds. She seems to shine in small groups and one on ones--and away from her mother. She has Beatrix's ability to be regal and I like that.

Alexia is Maxima's mini-me. I think she likes the spotlight and the crowds. She just needs to stop following Maxima's fashion sense.

I have no idea why Maxima went with that pantsuit thingy. Her hair was good, but she topped it with...what, I don't know.

Laurentian and Amalia were the best of the lot.

Amalia also had to deal with some awful threats, enough that she had to move out of her college dorm and move back home to continue school. That could account for feeling uneasy in large crowds. You just never know where the nuts are and if they'll do more than boo.

Well, it's been hard for Amalia, even now she's in the shadow of her mother. It seems that she's starting to gain more confidence and poise which is a huge step in the right direction.
Amalia is popular with the public, her father is not.

I think Amalia stepping out of the shadow of her mother and finding her own path would be the best thing for her. Look how different she was when she had solo engagements on that joint tour she and her parents undertook. She was relaxed and unfussy and really enjoyed herself.

Alexia seems hell-bent on being the center of attention and on being her mother's mini-me. And Maxima seems to be encouraging that, which isn't good. I really don't get a sense of a sisterly bond between any of the A-team, not like what we see with Leonore and Sofia, for instance, or with Elisabeth of Belgium and her siblings. It's odd.

Alexia is slim and much prettier than Amalia, so she's standing out more in the photos. Nothing wrong with Amalia, who does look very regal. But Alexia is looking at the camera instead of watching events, and the photographers love a good photo of a pretty girl. It sells. Alexia looks like she's overshadowing her sister on purpose, but it couldn't happen without the photographers. Amalia's day will come when she blossoms, and she'll be queen while Alexia most likely will marry a commoner and step back out of the public eye for the most part. Tale as old as time.

Why are the Dutch people cold towards their king? What have I missed? He doesn't have Beatrix's warmth or joie de vivre, but as her son you'd think he have more goodwill.

The King and Queen came under fire during the Covid crisis by taking a vacation to their Greek holiday home while the rest of the Netherlands, actually the world were under strict Covid restrictions. The Greek vacation home, as with the vacation home that was planned in Mozambique was criticized, while the African home plan was sacked, the Greek home went ahead. I think that the public feeling is Willem Alexander is not as in touch with the public as his Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother were.
Alexia does have a problem with the cameras. We See a lot of model poses. Looking over her shoulder, the hand on the hip...posing. Is that bad? Not necessarily, but at her recent solo engagement, Alexia was much more interested in the media and having her pictures taken than the actual purpose for her engagement, at one point she appeared very bored when officials were explaining things and showing her around. Okay, it can go with her age, but it doesn't go well with the public.

I remember reading that Willemstad Alexander wasn’t as popular as Beatrix before he became king. His standing had improved after marrying Maxima and they started a family. While I do remember the anger at the attempted trip during Covid and the vacation home plans being nixed, I honestly thought that they had improved their standing and gained back that ground.

Amalia passed on collecting her $1M when she turned 18, which was the right thing to do. But then she was threatened at school and had to return home from the dorm. While the nature of the attacks wasn’t revealed it surprised me that she would be targeted.

I guess Beatrix’s goodwill did not extend out to the rest of the family. Is that why we see so little coverage of the others? To keep the eye centered on W-A and his A team?

I think Alexia has been suffering from spare-itis for a number of years and could be another Harry in the making.

That's kind of what I'm seeing. She's got a very different affect than either Amalia or Ariane. I think she sees herself as the star of the three sisters. It's kind of jarring seeing this in someone this young.
