Catherine visits Maidenhead Rugby Club

The Princess of Wales likes to take a hands-on approach to her early childhood campaign - and today she proved she is ready for action as she arrived at Maidenhead Rugby Club in her sports gear and got stuck into drills.

Kate, 41, took a graceful pass from ex-England star Danny Care, looking athletic in a turquoise England rugby T-shirt, navy joggers from Sweaty Betty and brilliant white Lululemon trainers.

She was visiting the club as part of her work on her early years crusade, with new data showing an increased awareness of early years development since she became an advocate of the cause.

She doesn't lecture, she gets out there and really involves herself in activities. Catherine sets an example.

A mother whose daughter took her own life at the end of April shared an emotional moment with the Princess of Wales at Maidenhead Rugby Club this afternoon.

Mother-of-three Sarah Renton's 17-year-old daughter Issy Phipps sadly died just weeks ago after struggling with depression.

Today Mrs Renton met another mother-of-three, Kate, during her visit to the rugby club as part of her Shaping Us campaign, and gifted her a pair of earrings made by her cousin in Issy's memory.

Kate was visibly moved by her interaction with Mrs Renton, who coaches the under-14 boys at the club, and put her arm around the mother before giving her a warm hug.

Mrs Renton later said the Princess had promised to wear the jewellery at a later date in Issy's memory.

I'm in tears. Issy's story demonstrates why Catherine's work is so important. Issy's family is destroyed and Catherine's support must surely help them.

It's heartening that the public is now catching on to the importance of Catherine's focus and work for children and their parents.
