Ndileka Mandela slams Australian newspaper over Harry and Meghan article

Ndileka Mandela made headlines earlier this month when Sydney's Daily Telegraph reported she had slammed the royal couple for having 'stolen' her grandfather's name for their own personal gain.

Danielle Gusmaroli, the newspaper's Europe correspondent, quoted the social activist as being 'deeply upset' the Sussexes had used the late South African president's quotes in their documentary series Live To Lead.

But Ms Mandela since angrily claimed the tabloid and Ms Gusmaroli twisted her words and exploited her granddad's name to launch an attack on the royal couple.

In an opinion piece for London newspaper The Independent on Sunday, Ms Mandela blasted the newspaper for 'weaponising my name'.

She said her grandfather's reputation had been used to attack a woman of colour.

Harry and the Coronation

The King is a loving father, and it is understandable that he should want his younger son to be present on such an occasion. He hopes to give the world the impression that the Royal Family is reconciled.

If only it were! The truth is that Harry has fired torpedo after torpedo at members of the Royal Family, most notably at the Queen Consort Camilla and his brother William, who is said to have misgivings about a deal to lure the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the Coronation.

There's no evidence that Harry is remotely contrite. More books, and doubtless further television interviews and self-serving documentaries, lie ahead, and neither Harry nor his wife shows any sign of intending to desist.

It is surely unimaginable, though, that this could happen without an assurance from Harry and Meghan that their broadsides will cease for good — and it seems extremely unlikely that such an undertaking will ever be given by the vengeful Sussexes.

And even if they gave an assurance, how would that be enforced? And why would anybody believe it?

After the Oprah interview, they claimed they were done, they were moving on, living their best life, blah, blah, blah. Obviously that wasn't true, because their docuseries contained scenes that were obviously filmed after the interview.

In the docuseries, Harry claimed that he had made peace with the fact that his family would never see things their way and take responsibility for what they had done. But that after the book was released, they hoped to reconcile with Charles and the rest of the family.

But in the interviews given to promote the book, Harry didn't give the impression of a man that was ready to move on. Instead, he made threats regarding the possibility of a second book, demanded a public apology from his family to his wife. He's got a long list of demands that he wants met before he'll condescend to attend the coronation.

And yet, British reporters think that if he'd just give his word, everything will be fine.

The thing with the Biblical Prodigal Son is he was truly contrite and sought his father's forgiveness with true sincerity. That's not Harry, the prodigal son.
The new item going around the internet is that Harry is demanding a MAJOR role in the Coronation or he and the wife won't attend. That's an easy one...the answer is NO and we hope you and your wife enjoy all the festivities while watching from Casa del Sussex. That would be my response to him.

Another thing I've read elsewhere is that Harry wants a face-to-face meeting with his father and brother, but he expects them to come to him!

Sure they will, after all, it's not as if the King and the Prince of Wales have anything else to do with their time. Or that they would be worried that the meeting place would be miked and filled with hidden cameras.

I have never been able to watch this series of videos - his slimy, sanctimonious tone makes my blood run cold. I persevered on this one for nine minutes - it is a despicable exercise in 'sl*t-shaming'.

I'm surprised we missed this article back in 2018, but there was a ton of articles about Meghan back then. To me, it shows Meghan's pattern of pursuing wealthy men or men coming from wealthy families, most, if not all white. Narcissism, but also social climbing.
When she came to the UK before Harry, she specified to a "friend" she wanted to meet a "rich British man." Meghan turned down the one date with a wealthy UK sports star.....he was black.

Yes, indeed, Karenl, she appears to be an inveterate social climber, as many of those in royal circles are (Lord Mountbatten, anyone?).

But I am not about to condemn her because she went on a date with a fellow actor who, at an earlier time and, presumably unknown to her, had starred in a couple of solo porn movies. I am both relieved and surprised that she hadn't hired private detectives to vet him - a rare and welcome act of spontaneity on her part.

The foundation's first official report, released in the US last night, contains 'a snapshot of our impact by the numbers'. In a section 'measuring our work in the world', Harry and Meghan's charity said it had helped with: '12.66 million COVID-19 vaccines procured for the global population through our partnership with Global Citizen'.

But critics have pointed to a 2021 Global Citizen report, which said that the Sussexes' foundation had helped bring in $535,000 - enough for 107,000 Covid jabs.

And today, hours after the report was released, Global Citizen's co-founder Michael Sheldrick thanked the couple for their support while clarifying that the 12.66million jabs had been a 'collective' effort 'garnering public & private sector support'.

Mr Sheldrick said: 'We were grateful to partner w/ the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation to promote vaccine equity at a time when vaccine nationalism was rife'.

The GC report also said that the couple 'called' for people to support the good cause but did not say how much Archewell itself had donated.

One said: 'Archewell was responsible for encouraging their fans to donate $535,000 resulting in 107,000 vaccine doses. Good, but no $ came from Archewell directly & just a small fraction of the 12.66mil doses'. Another tweeted: 'Archewell is stealing the credit from organisations they have "partnered" with

And we all know why these padded, massaged, and outright false numbers are being released now: the Sussexes have gotten such a drubbing from their Netflix soap opera and Harry's Oedipus fantasy novel that they are in dire need of both $$ and good publicity. Having Nelson Mandela's granddaughter change her story isn't going to work, and neither will these "numbers."

I'm also keeping a sharp eye on the Archbishop of Canterbury's Discretionary Fund. Welby's so close to the Sussexes he may make a donatio to Archewell out of them, if it doesn't go against the Fund's rules.

It's the old "puffing" game. Puffing the facts and numbers, but not revealing the true story or the actual numbers.
This is all trying to get good PR and now to distract from the film, book and Harry's failed media appearances.
Mandela's granddaughter's U-turn just makes it obvious there was a push to change her story from either the Sussexes, Graca, or both.

So, an interesting rumor is that Erdem loaned Meghan a dress for a Canadian event she attended with Prince Harry before they were engaged--presumably the Invictus Games--and lo and behold, it didn't get the dress back. Then after the engagement, Meghan stepped up the demand for loaners, which the company was hesitant to do. Catherine, on the other hand, has apparently always paid full price up front. Hence her getting first crack. Nothing to do with Catherine coming first in the pecking order, but simply because Catherine paid and Meghan expected freebies.

I tend to believe this more than the heir/spare line Meghan pulled. What do y'all think?

Seems to fit. Especially when you keep in mind the story, that M wanted her mother to use a special lounge at the airport, because she just assumed that the Middletons used it, too. Alas no one has any recollection of the Middletons using the lounge, only William and Catherine.

I guess it is more of the same old “I accuse you of things that I did myself/would do myself”.

This explanation is more believable than the "Heir/Spare" story. Of course, Meghan isn't going to spill the truth that she kept the dress that was loaned to her in Toronto rather than return it or....actually buy it. Same with the shoes she "stole" before she met Harry.
The victim card works out much more than the truth that she's a thief.
