Dutch Royals in the Caribbean, Day 1

Amalia has joined her parents for this tour. She looks a little nervy. I think this is her first official tour.

This is Amalia's first tour overseas. She does look a bit unsure, I'm sure as the visit goes on she'll get the hang of it and relax.

I hope so. I think if she can find more informal engagements that will help, too. Doing visits where she cn be in a nice pair of jeans and a great shirt would help her relax.

I think her parents made a mistake in not including her in some royal visits from very early on. She would be much more at ease now. She will grow in confidence as she does more, but I think she needs to develop her own way of doing things. She doesn't have her mother's exuberance and I think smaller, more casual visits would be better right now.

I'd like to see Amalia get her footing and confidence at an event with just her father, or perhaps a trusted royal aide.

Maxima would overwhelm most young women stepping into public life--nothing against her, of course but she seems to love being the center of attention.

Like I said , her parents should have been including her on some royal duties all along. Mathilde and Philippe have done that with Elisabeth, and so have Felipe and Letizia and Haakon and Mette Marit with their daughters. Oh, and Victoria and Daniel, too. I think Amalia would do really well in smaller, much more informal visits, ones that are geared to her areas of interest.

Marianne always used to discuss her disappointment that the Dutch Princesses were not gradually introduced to public duties as other Royal children. Yes, there has to be a balance between children's private lives and public lives, the other Monarchies have figured it out, Willem-Alexander and Maxima could have done the same.
Amalia had a gap year and she could have started some public engagements at that time, a few to become acquainted with protocol and the basics. It's sad because she does get lost in the midst of her mother's appearance.

Caribbean Visit Day 3

In some of the photos Amalia is walking behind her parents and a couple show Amalia walking behind her mother, like a Lady-in-Waiting. I give credit to her father, he does bring her around to him and puts his arms around her. There are still plenty of photos showing Amalia walking or standing behind her parents when I feel she should be standing next to her parents.
On a side note, Maxima's red outfit and hat are stunning and I think she's wearing the brooch from the Peakcock Parure, my favorite parure.
