So how much WILL Harry make from his record-breaking memoir?

Much less than the media will claim because the book has been deeply discounted from the get-go, not to mention all the freebie audio books that have been counted as sales.

Just as the media appears to believe that it costs the couple nothing to live their extravagant lifestyle. Instead, the media just adds up whatever amount they are rumored to have received and proclaims that as their net worth, while adding in the value of their home for good measure.

And the $20M advance is for four books, not that first one alone. I love it when "authors" say they'll donate the proceeds to charity. What exactly does that mean? All incoming funds? The amount over what they consider a salary for writing the book? Some five figure pittance so they can claim they didn't lie while pocketing the rest?

I hit 2 bookstores today (the older nephew and myself) and one had a ton of copies left, they said that they've sold 4 copies since last Tues., they're going to reduce the price again and if they can't sell, they'll ship the books back to Penguin.
The other bookstore said about the same. Despite Penguin and the media, it's not selling.
It's like all the "project" the Harkles have done, the first week, the company crows about the massive sales/audience/money, after that, suddenly nothing more is said.
Again, when the book was announced, it was stated, "Harry would donate all the proceeds to charity", suddenly the story changed a couple of weeks ago, "some of the proceeds will go to charity."
If the remaining 3 books by Harry and Meghan are written in the same, "we're victims of the world" and contain outright lies (which they will), they won't sell at all, except to the Lumps.

This coming from Ingrid Seward.
"Speaking on this week's True Royalty TV's The Royal Beat, royal expert and Majesty Magazine's editor-in-chief, Ingrid Seward said: "I also feel that possibly they picked the wrong ghost-writer for [Harry].

"The book is very flowery, it's very purple, and half the words in the book, you know that Harry hasn't got a clue what they mean."

"........The 38-year-old employed the help of John Joseph Moehringer, who is known by his pen name as J. R. Moehringer, to write the book.

A source who works for the author told the Daily Mail in October: “He is charming and easy-going, but he has a killer nose for a story.

"He’s spent his life writing about broken men and family relationships, starting with his own broken family.”

We know who's idea it was to get Moehringer and it wasn't George Clooney. Moehringer had his mommy and daddy problems so was perfect in pouring on sympathy and agreeing with Harry, instead of being neutral or challenging Harry. In addition, he was getting paid a wad of money, also.

Hollie, you listened to Harry's book, of course. In the book, did Harry bring up the issue of buying the house in Montecito? The reason I ask is a vlogger on YouTube claims that Tyler Perry accompanied Harry and Meghan to the now Casa del Sussex and raved about it as much as the Harkles did. Another claim is that Perry "loaned" $7 million to Harry and Meghan" towards the purchase of the mansion." The vlogger further claimed that the relationship between the Harkles and Perry is strained because they've made no attempt to pay any of the loan back. This guy doesn't have a good track record so I thought I'd ask. If it was in the book, the media would have caught it and you would have posted the anecdote.

Oddly enough, Harry didn't mention how they paid for the house. He and Meghan are very cagey about how they pay for anything, so I wouldn't be surprised if they bummed a loan off Perry and then reneged on repayment.

I think Harry submitted a first draft, the person at Penguin who read it swallowed loudly, and then selected the ghost writer. Wifey wouldn't have looked for one, she would have given the job to herself, along with a fat fee. Or have hired Doria to keep it all in the family.

I love your expression, "the person at Penguin who swallowed loudly", too funny. It probably happened for real.
We don't know if Moehringer was the only choice, there may have been a couple of others, and after reading the first draft, stated, "You are kidding, right?" According to the DM, yes, I know, JR Moehringer appeared to be the only choice. I'm sure the wife really wanted to get into the action big time. Meghan's "statement" that she didn't know what was in the book, I find hard to believe. If she didn't know all that was in it, I would bet she knew the vast majority of the content.

I can't remember where I read it, but the article claimed that the editor at Penguin was dismayed because Harry described everything as "awesome", and the manuscript was filled with Americanisms. He didn't sound British at all.

The disappearing Duchess

The royal couple typically put on a united front, with Prince Harry making an appearance at the end of his wife's interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

He has made a number of cameos since, from sitting in the audience with schoolchildren in New York as Meghan promoted her book The Bench, to juggling in the window at the end of her 40th birthday video.

'We're like salt and pepper,' Meghan once said. 'We always move together.'

But as Harry released his explosive memoir Spare, Meghan has been notably absent.

He didn't do a "media tour". Most of the interviewers came to him at that rented house in California, with the exception of Steven Colbert. Maybe the interviewers decided that salt should leave the pepper at home.

Maybe she's miffed about the amount of proceeds that are going to charity.

CNN Finds Little Evidence Of The Palace Trying To Debunk Harry's Claims

"Of the response in the UK, analysis by CNN notes: "The reality is not quite as black and white. Certainly, multiple British newspapers are still running frequent follow-up headlines using sound-bites from commentators.

"But there appears little evidence of a coordinated effort from an army of unnamed palace sources, as Harry has asserted, to debunk his grievances. And, of course, there continues to be radio silence from the palace whenever the book is raised."

It follows Harry, 38, being asked by Stephen Colbert: "Do you think right now there is an active campaign by the rest of your family, by the Royal House as it were, to undermine this book and you?"

To which the Duke of Sussex responded: "Yes, of course, and mainly by the British press..."

Even media companies like CNN are turning against Harry and Meghan, CNN has always had a sympathetic leaning toward them. Max Foster, Harry's "acquaintance" works at CNN, but he has come out against the Harry and Spare.

That's correct, Harry conducted only 4 interviews. Two were in the rented house in Calif. and 2 in NYC with Colbert and Strahan (GMA), hardly a media tour.
There was a rumor on the internet that Meghan tried to crash the interview with Anderson Cooper, she showed up and the house and was stopped by CBS security. It was claimed she got into a heated argument with security and ultimately drove off in a huff. Nothing definitely proven.
Not only may Meghan be in a huff over the amt. of proceeds going to charity, but in addition, Meghan can't face the media. She knows she'll be hit with the Taliban claim and the Royal Family racism walk back plus the numerous claims that have been debunked so far. Meghan would get flustered and angry, she can't think on her feet.
I think that's just another reason Meghan has been silent and Harry has suddenly gone MIA/AWOL. They can't face the media without questions submitted beforehand.
