William and Catherine arrive at Earthshot Prize gala

The Princess of Wales brought the theme of her husband's eco-friendly Earthshot Prize to life in spectacularly stylish fashion this evening, when she arrived on the 'green carpet' wearing a rented neon green off-the-shoulder gown.

In 1981, the Queen gave Queen Mary’s Art Deco Emerald Choker as a wedding gift, as a lifetime loan, to Lady Diana Spencer when she married the Prince of Wales.

Oh, dear. Catherine's dress is not her best choice. I get that she rented it to be eco-conscious, and she chose the color to reflect the principle of being "green," but the dress is not flattering on her and it just doesn't fit quite right. It's a very rare sartorial misstep for the Princess.

I just realized the dress is giving me flashbacks to Harry's wife's parade of ill-fitting dresses with similar necklines. Catherine is nowhere near those fashion faux pas, but still you can see the seams at the sdes are puckering instead of lying flat, and the neckline and choker just don't work together. Still, the Earthshot Prize is the important thing.

I'm glad others didn't like the gown, I'm not a fan, but I see the reason for it. I'm thrilled to see the choker, I've always liked that piece..except when Diana wore it as a head band, wasn't to my taste. Hey, it was the 80's.
I noticed Catherine's pooch and thought, hmm..maybe? I tend to go along with Susan.

True. Catherine's face looks a bit puffy, though, and she looks a little tired. I really do wonder about a pregnancy.

I think it’s fillers. It’s very common for other royal ladies as well. It causes their faces to look puffier than other times.

Catherine isn't the type to do that, though, and neither are the other female members of the RF. And why would she look like her normal self for the first few days of the visit, then suddenly get fillers--in a foreign country, no less--when the tour is coming to a close? That doesn't make sense.

I think she was tired and a bit under the weather, for whatever reason.

Many women, myself included, have swelling due to air travel. It does not always dissipate immediately either, especially when one “hits the ground running”. I know, unfortunate phrasing, but she has done exactly that. Not much time to sit with elevated feet and drink lots of water!

When I saw the first pic of her it was not just the colour of the gown but her makeup as well that looked out of character. She probably did not have all of her support team on this tour with her.

In my opinion, most unlikely. I don't think she'd be wearing a dress that closely fitted if she were. All it would do is cause lots of speculation and take away from the moment and its purpose. But who am I?

The dress disappointed me too. The colour is an odd shade.

I wanted to sneak in here a link to an Australian group of prize winners, in the Revive our Oceans category - won by the Queensland Indigenous Women Ranger Network. Good for them.

I have to agree on the dress. I did not like it. It is an odd color of green and it is not flattering at all. I understand her reason for wearing it. Thank goodness it is only a rental and we won't have to see it again. The dress is made of an unforgiving fabric that shows every flaw--not that Catherine's figure has any flaws, it is just not flattering. And pregnancy--I doubt it. She gets so sick and although she could dodge that bullet with an additional pregnancy.

I was disappointed with Catherine's own, too. It was an odd shade of green and a not very attractive style. I usually don't comment on her clothes, but this just seemed wrong.
