Princess Beatrice Questions

I believe her official style is HRH Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Mapelli Mozzi. Edoardo’s father is an Italian count (by courtesy, since Italy became a republic,I think is the way it is put).

1. Does Pss Bea have her own coat of arms?

2. Regardless, the Mapelli Mozzis are armingers (see link). Could The Queen grant her the right to have arms of her husband impaled with her father’s?

3. I understand that the current practice is that the Court does not recognize foreign titles held by British subjects, with a few exceptions. (See e.g., the Gleichen’s, the foreign titles held by Dukes of Wellington.). Nonetheless, in theory HM could recognize Edoardo’s courtesy title so that Pss Bea (and her children) could be styled as HRH Princess Beatrice, Countess (or Nobile) Edoardo Mapelli-Mozzi. I would like to see her do that. If nothing else, it would be a nice work around her father.

The coat of arms was granted in July 2006, on her 18th birthday.

The Queen granting the right regarding Coat of Arms

Only Queen consorts and the wives of sons of the monarch have their own personal coat of arms. Typically this will be the arms of their husband impaled with their own personal arms or those of their father. The Monarch can't grant them for Grandchildren of the Male Line.

On another occasion when the subject of Edo's "title" was raised, I stumbled across an article that said that when noble titles were abolished in Itaty in 1946, they could continue to be used by the current title holder and 1 (or possibly 2) more generations. There may have been an additional requirement that the additional generations clause was only applicable to those already born.

What I do remember clearly is that under the regulations, not only did Edo not meet the criteria, but Edo's father also didn't (either because he was the 2nd generation - the title was held by Edo's great-grandfather at the time the nobility was abolished - or because he was born too late).

Regardless, the likelihood of the Queen granting permission for an Italian title of nobility, which is no longer officially recognized by Italy, to be used by her grandson-in-law is infinitesimal.

There's no need for a work around Andrew. Beatrice ceased to be "of York" when she married.
