Beatrice and Edo attend preview of A Gallop Through History

The Royal Windsor Horse Show, which kicked off last night and will run until Sunday, is the Queen's favourite event of the year, butit was announced the 96-year-old Monarch would not attend this year due to mobility issues.

The couple, who reportedly baptised their daughter Sienna in early May, left the eight-month-old at home to represent the sovereign.

Beatrice looks good and that event looked spectacular. I wonder if having Edo and Beatrice attend was meant to placate Andrew, who always wanted a public role for his daughters. Not that Andrew has any pull with who-attends-what, but I can't imagine that he's taking his punishment/banishment quietly or with any grace.

In previous articles, it was mentioned that both Beatrice and Eugenie would be given "roles" and that teh Queen would no longer be making unaccompanied appearances.

I'm guessing the Queen had intended to attend this show and that Beatrice and Edo had been chosen to accompany her. When it was decided that the Queen could not attend, Bea and Edo went without her.

Wonderful choice of Beatrice and Edo to attend. I wouldn't be surprised if Beatrice, Eugenie and spouses are actively involved in the Jubilee activities. I could see HM wanting her grandchildren included, it's her celebration.

Beatrice looks glowing and happy. Marriage to Edo has transformed her. That gown would normally make my shower curtain list, but Beatrice looks fabulous in it. We've seen Edward, William, and now Edo in smoking jackets this year. Of the three, Edo is the only one who really carries off the fashion. He looks glamorous and elegant.

I'm sorry HM couldn't be there, but Beatrice and Edo make great representatives.

About the "smoking jackets". I'm not so keen on those velvet trimmings but I do think men need to add a cummerbund.

Cumberbunds aren't usually worn with smoking jackets. No idea why, though. I do like the idea of men wearing evening slippers with the jackets, but I think Charles and Edward are the only one who still follow that tradition.

A cumberbund would be a classic touch. Yes, Edo didn't wear sneakers as is the "fad", worse are men wearing slip on shoes without socks for formal affairs. I can't stand that fashion "fad", it's so tacky. What am I saying? Tacky is the new classic fashion...I'm proud to say I don't like it.

Edo wore proper lace ups and socks. His shoes were polished and he was dressed appropriately for the occasion. All of this bodes well for future appearances. More importantly, however, is that he was clearly supporting Beatrice. She's really come into her own since marrying him.

And yes, I hate the no socks fad too.

Make room or me on the "no to no socks" bandwagon. No one is so special or elevated that they don't have to dress appropriately for a planned occasion. Fads are for parties, not formal events.
