Netflix chiefs 'annoyed' Harry gave interview to NBC

Netflix chiefs are said to be exasperated by the decision of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to give bombshell interviews to rival television networks – despite having a multi-million-dollar deal with the streaming giant.

The Mail on Sunday understands there was 'a real sense of annoyance' when Prince Harry last month revealed details of his meeting with the Queen at Windsor Castle during an interview with NBC.

According to a source, that frustration was heightened because a Netflix film crew was shadowing Harry at the time for Heart Of Invictus, a documentary about his event for wounded and injured service personnel and veterans.

'Netflix would have loved the first comments about the visit to the Queen for the documentary,' said the insider. 'There was a real sense of annoyance that they were made to another broadcaster.'

Buckingham Palace staff are making plans to block Harry and Meghan's Netflix cameras when they return to the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee events.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are flying over from California to join the monarch in celebrating 70 years on the throne, although they have been banned from the palace balcony for the showpiece Trooping the Colour ceremony.

However, the couple are still expected to play a significant role, and some royal aides are concerned about the prospect of tension among the family if a film crew also appear in tow.

A well-placed source told the Sun: 'Even if they accept that their Netflix crew can't go into Buckingham Palace to film, they could cause problems — and at the very least cause a major distraction.

'Senior courtiers believe that Netflix will see it as one big opportunity to exploit their mega-millions agreement with the couple.

'So a team of Palace aides will be on standby to keep a very close eye on the crew, and act as minders if needs be.'

The media keeps banging on about them being expected to play a "significant role.' Expected by whom? Two days ago they weren't expected to attend. And what 'significant roles' are there to be handed out?

I swear the media gets off on winding us up and claiming that something is a much bigger deal than it is, as they did when they claimed Andrew had a 'starring role' at Philip's memorial service.

Netflix can easily be banned fromWindsor and BP--and the Sussexes can be checked for mics/recording devices too. Netflix won't be able to film in St. Paul's, either. Exacrly how are they going to get any money shots? I am just confused as to who's expecting to do what .

I haven't been following the sequence of events much yet. But I am wondering if the Harkles will be in a carriage procession--GOLD for Netflix. I wonder if the Harkles will even bother to come if they can't have their filming crew following around.

It would make no sense to exclude them from the balcony but include them in the carriage procession.

However, regardless of what they've been told and agreed to, once Harry and family arrive in England, the odds are that they will throw a hissy fit to try to get things changed.

They may just show up at an event to which they haven't been invited. They did that at the reception marking the 50th anniversary of Charles being invested as Prince of Wales.

And if they have their film crew in tow, that would be the money shot: being send packing.

Or they could use their children as shields, believing that nobody would cause a scene with the littles ones present.

Will they be at St Paul's?

Will William and Catherine ignore them?

Will the Windsors have a birthday party for Lili?

Will they christen Lili during the visit?

We keep being told they will only be invited to "family events". Are we really expected to believe that a service held at ST Paul's Cathedral and televised to millions is a family event? Ditto the Party at the Palace concert and the Jubilee Pagent?

While I do not think a publicly held service is a family event, however, churches are open to all who wish to attend, so I think perhaps HM sees a church service is fair game, hence The Duke of York and the Sussexes can attend. After all, if one is not welcome at church, where are they welcome?

Well, this service isn't open to all. If you didn't receive an invitation, you won't be admitted.

I have no objections to them (and Andrew) attending, provided they are treated exactly the same as the other non-working royal and non-royal grandchildren.

But don't treat me like an idiot by calling these events 'family events'.

If we get a repeat of the Commonwealth Service I will lose my mind. The Cambridges were forced to walk with the Sussexes. No, this time let teh Sussexes walk with the other grands--maybe with Eugenie and Jack since she likes them so much.

As for the baptism, they'll want their Netflix team in to film it. Hopefully HM will say no to it being done at Windsor unless there are no cameras present except for an approved photographer. We all know Harry's wife wants to merch Lili asap. And Archie will be ignored as usual. Birthday party for the Golden Child? Who would attend? The York princesses and their children, but that's it. Oh, and the Netflix folks too.

Maybe one of my London cousins will get a prime spot oustide St. Paul's and be able to heave an egg or rotten tomato at the Duhssexes.

Oh good grief, we get the treat of viewing Harry's beer belly and "moobs", he has to have a "lackey" put sunscreen on his abdomen? The back I can understand, but he can't do the front himself? Well, lazy and entitled is as lazy and entitled does.
The tabloids are yammering on, giving the impression that the Harkles will be present the entire Jubilee weekend, but the original polo story, as we know, states Harry has a polo tournament or games, or what the heck ever, the same weekend and he supposedly is "committed to".
As I stated before, was Scobie lying and there's no commitment and this polo stuff is just PR? To me, the oh so private Harry would be furious at "paps" taking photos and hanging around. He doesn't seem to have a problem so I think it's all PR. As usual with the Calif. clowns, everything is fishy and smells.

The Duke of Sussex has suffered a setback in his latest legal battle to claim a newspaper report about his security caused him "serious harm" that undermined his charity work.

A High Court judge has rejected the Duke's request for a preliminary trial to decide whether the Mail on Sunday story caused serious harm to his reputation, saying: “Ultimately this is an issue of fact.”

I don't know what an "issue of fact" is, but it appears from what I was able to google, that it is a disputed fact and is determined by a jury. I cannot read the article because I won't pay to read, but is this basically what the judge has decided--a jury is needed to determine if Harry's feelings were hurt or if he was traumatized?

The judge has rejected the Duke's request for a preliminary trial to decide whether the Mail on Sunday story caused serious harm to his reputation, saying: “Ultimately this is an issue of fact.”

The Duke, who is suing the publishers of the Mail on Sunday over a report that he “tried to keep his legal fight with the government over police bodyguards a secret”, claimed the story harmed his reputation so as to “constitute an attack on his honesty and integrity and undermine his fitness to be involved both in charitable and philanthropic work in general”.

“I have refused to direct trial of the issue of serious harm,” he said. “I appreciate that the Claimant’s [Harry’s] case is one based (at this stage) solely upon inference, but ultimately this is an issue of fact.

“The Defendant [Associated Newspapers] must have an opportunity to advance any factual case in answer to the Claimant’s inferential case."

A Kiwi comic who starred alongside Prince Harry in a bizarre video skit promoting eco-travel once called Jewish people 'expendable', said Hitler 'had a right' and that HIV sufferers deserved to be 'roasted' in a brutal comedy roast more than a decade ago, it has emerged.

Tsk, tsk, Harry. You were so quick to throw your father under the bus regarding his associates involved in the cash for honours mess. Maybe you should worry about the people your non-profit hires.

"The Duke in particular is very aware of Maori culture and kaitiakitanga." Err, no, the Duke is not. He got a little briefing on it, that's all. Also, why not involve Lady Davina Windsor, who actually does know about Maori culture and who actually lived in New Zealand with her then-husband, a man who is actually half Maori, and her part-Maori children? Oh, right. Davina's smarter than to be involved with Harry's silliness.

Harry had a "fantastic visit to New Zealand", Umm, the same tour Meghan loathed and Harry called "pointless". So these actors are ferried from New Zealand to Calif. to shoot a video, how much carbon was thrown into the atmosphere for their jaunt?
So a traveler is "rated" on how "green" he/she is before he/she can travel to the destination chosen to visit...sounds like discrimination to me.

We know that Harry's son's name is Archie, not Alfie.

They can sue to stop publication or try to muddy the waters as to what is or isn't true, but if people are on record and have proof to back up their claims then she has nothing to go on.

We knew last year that this book was coming out this summer. I wonder if that effected the release date of Harry's book?

Meghan Markle is on the hunt for another broadcast giant to pick up her cartoon series which was axed by Netflix.

Pearl, the working title for the Duchess of Sussex's TV show, was officially scrapped last week as part of a wave of cutbacks prompted by the streaming juggernaut's drop in subscribers.

It then emerged yesterday that Meghan had wiped all references to the programme from her Archewell website.

But despite being dumped by Netflix, the 40-year-old and her production team do not see it as a fatal blow and are now said to be exploring other avenues.

Meghan and executive producer David Furnish - Elton John's husband - will pitch the concept to rival networks such as Apple and Amazon, according to the Sun.

She and husband Harry are permitted to sell on any products Netflix turns down under the terms of their contract with the streaming service.

A source told the paper: 'Meghan and Harry will not give up on taking Pearl to the screen.

'They are determined to not let all the work and creative endeavours put into the idea simply fall away.

'Netflix has a standard deal with them, typical in Hollywood, allowing them to pitch projects rejected by them to other outlets. This is common practice within TV circles in Hollywood.'

The couple are believed to have good relationships with other platforms, after the Duke appeared on a series about mental health with Apple, while the Duchess has voiced a wildlife documentary for Disney, which also has a global streaming service.

Meghan and Prince Harry established Archewell Productions in the autumn of 2020 to create scripted series, docu-series, documentaries, features, and children's programming.

Pearl was expected to be the first animated series created by the production company.

It was set to see a young girl inspired by Meghan - whose name means 'pearl' in Welsh - take on various social injustices, while highlighting the work of feminist icons.

A now-removed quote from Meghan about the series read: 'Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life's daily challenges.

'I'm thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.'

Despite dropping Pearl, insiders claimed Netflix remains optimistic about the Archewell deal and has several projects planned, including a documentary series called Heart of Invictus, which follows the recent Invictus Games.

Netflix made several cuts in late April and early May, including dropping two other children's shows and firing staff.

Meghan's representatives have been approached for comment.

Disney won't take on the project and the others are dicey. The key is Netflix dropped the project, a week ago or so, none of the other streaming platforms or even cable jumped in immediately to take the project.
This past weekend the author Angela Levin stated that this project and the Spotify project about "archetypes" will fail, in part, because what Meghan is focusing on, are passe now. People have moved on.

I admit I wonder who is this show's target audience? Did Meghan think that through? When I was the protagonist's age, I had zero interest in learning about inspirational anybody. My interests were boys, horses,boys, the Bay City Rollers,boys, reading Seventeen and Mademoiselle magazines, and (wait for it) boys. I think Meghan should thank her stars the project was pulled before it became yet another failure for her.
