The first few chapters tell of the Prince's early years in the army. He was kept away from the front not so much as it was feared he would be killed, but that he might be taken hostage. He really wanted to see action and was bored with his desk jobs. He was a slow starter in many ways, but once he got going he enjoyed going to clubs, meeting women, etc. Marguerite was a very ambitious woman and her actions could put Wallis in the dust. The affair was over before he met Wallis. |
It is interesting reading about a time I've never paid much attention to. Really the roaring 20's everywhere.
