Prince Charles visits his ill father Philip in hospital

The Prince of Wales has arrived at King Edward VII's hospital in London to visit his father the Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Charles arrived at the back of the London hospital where Philip, the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth, has been since Tuesday. He is expected to remain in hospital until next week.

His son, 72, was pictured wearing a face mask as he walked from his car into the hospital.

Charles was pictured arriving to see him as the King Edward hospital's website said visitors will only be considered in 'exceptional circumstances'.

I'm really scared. This just feels very different from the last few times Philip was in hospital.

I agree with you. I feel the same way but didn't want to say anything in order not to jinx things. Not that I believe in jinxing. But the fact that Charles went to visit and Harry is supposedly isolating, and the fact that they keep extending his stay is making me really, really nervous. And sad. I hope someone has showed Philip pictures of his newest great grandson. They should give him some joy and peace.

I'm taking a wait and see stand right now. I think the doctors want to make sure HRH is feeling well enough and everything is clear especially in the time of Covid and lockdown. I think they want to limit exposure to a very minimum now and that would be at risk if he were to return Windsor and then have to be readmitted again.

It's likely that Philip was affected by the dealings going on within the family and went to hospital "as a precautionary measure" as we have been told. I think we know what he believes about duty - and has practised since marriage.
That hospital would be a form of respite care to distance him a bit from the centre of it all, and for his condition to be monitored.
Perhaps Charles had some very personal messages to deliver and to confirm decisions on some patronages.

I think we all know it was a "by invitation" visit. Philip was well aware of the Sussex situation and may have wished to discuss it with Charles in person rather than per phone or Zoom.

I do believe Elizabeth and Philip always split responsibilities so that HM is monarch and HRH is private head of family.

For Charles, he will have to discharge both responsibilities. He might find that difficult.
