Another Coronation review

Deborah, the Duchess of Devonshire hadn't planned to attend the Coronation of Elizabeth II as she was due to have a baby the end of June. She lost the baby and family members thought going to the Coronation might cheer her.

Her mother-in-law, the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire was Mistress of the Robes and had an important part in the ceremony. Stoker, the Devonshire's young son, was a page for his grandmother so Deborah decided to attend. She found an old velvet robe in storage at Chatsworth. She said seeing the peeresses dressed to the nines in the Abbey was an unforgettable sight. She does not mention any of the Royals family..

Thank you for the photos, Nellie.

Deborah asked Elizabeth II for permission to wear that gown because it was off the shoulders and different than what the other peeresses were wearing. Stoker was nine years old. Usually a page had to be at least 12, but he got the job because of his grandmother no doubt.

I'm not sure how they found that nickname. but since his given name is Peregrine they had to find something.

I like the story that Nancy Mitford was visiting when he was around age two. She asked him if he could talk and he said, "Not yet."
