Justin Welby no longer has an active public role after stepping down as the Archbishop of Canterbury on 6 January 2025.

He completed official duties on 6 January 2025. Until the confirmation of election of Dame Sarah Mullally as his successor on 28 January 2026, the functions of the archbishop were delegated to Stephen Cottrell, Archbishop of York, Sarah Mullally, then-bishop of London, and Rose Hudson-Wilkin, bishop of Dover. His' resignation became official at midnight on 6/7 January 2025
