Oh yes, I'm sure they were very heavy between the fabric and the jewels.
I read about Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna the younger on her wedding day. Her gown was fabulous and adorned with thousands of precious gems. She wore a huge necklace and earrings of large diamonds plus huge bracelets, the Russian never skimped on jewels. She had to wear a heavy bejeweled robe plus the huge wedding tiara and the smaller crown. She was small young woman and at one point, she was unable to walk on her own due to the tremendous weight of the ensemble. I can't imagine.
