Having a lace veil was actually pretty much the norm in the Victorian era. Victoria started the use of lace in bridal veils when she wore one made of Honiton lace for her wedding to Albert. She wanted to support the UK's lace-making industry and also commissioned the baptismal gown we all know from British lacemakers too. Of course, the lace she used was all hand made. If you weren't a wealthy bride, you used machine-made lace.
