26 August 1944 - Prince Richard of Gloucester was born at Hadley Common in Hertfordshire the 2nd child and 2nd son of Prince Henry, The Duke of Gloucester and his wife Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. At the time of his birth, he was fifth in the line of succession to the throne but second in line to his father's dukedom, behind his brother, HRH Prince William of Gloucester.
