1972 - The coffin of The Duke of Windsor arrived at RAF Benson station in Oxfordshire from Paris. He lay in state at the RAF Benson Church of the Ascension until it was moved to the Albert Memorial in St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. The funeral service was in early June 1972. The Duke died in late May 1972 at the age of 77 in Paris, France from throat cancer.
