Crown Ruby Brooch - It was designed and created by Garrard in 1854 and purchased along with a necklace and a pair of earrings. Originally the entire demi parure consisted of Opals and Diamonds. According to Suzy Menkes, author of: The Royal Jewels, the demi parure was not altered to ruby stones until 1926 by Queen Mary. The demi parure was passed by Queen Mary to Queen Elizabeth (The Queen Mother). The first time the brooch was seen publicly was in 1958 when The Queen Mother wore it, along with the rest of the demi parure, for a state banquet in honor of a German State Visit to the UK. The brooch passed on to Queen Elizabeth II on the death of her Mother in 2002. Queen Elizabeth II wore the brooch publicly for the first time in June 2015 for the Royal Ascot races.
