Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon's pink coral necklace - Traditionally in Scotland it is believed that coral brings beauty and prosperity to little girls. So there is a tradition that a small necklace of coral beads is given to the first daughter in the family. In 1901 Lady Elizabeth was given the small coral necklace by her parents on her first birthday. The by now Duchess of York carried on the tradition and passed the necklace she had been given, with pears been added to the necklace, to her eldest daughter, Princess Elizabeth, on her first birthday in 1927. The then Duchess of Edinburgh passed the necklace to her daughter Princess Anne on her first birthday in 1951. I like to think that Anne continued the tradition and the necklace was passed to Zara and then to Mia.
