1861 - Victoria, The Duchess of Kent and Strathearn, mother of Queen Victoria, died. Queen Victoria was by her side when she died at the age of 74. The Queen was much affected by her mother's death. Through reading her mother's papers, Victoria discovered that her mother had loved her deeply despite their estrangement. The Duchess is buried in her Mausoleum at Frogmore, and a few yards away lies her daughter and son-in-law in their Mausoleum.
