1816 - The engagement of Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales, daughter of HM King George IV, to Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, later known as Leopold I of Belgium, was announced. At least for a couple of years her life was a reasonably happy one. She adored her Leo. If not for her death and that of her still born son in 1818 we would have had a Queen Charlotte and not Victoria.
