Finding Freebies was a fail, as we know, so Omid probably had to pay back a large chunk of his advance money. Endgame was an even larger fail and we know why. It only sold 3500 copies in the UK and the US sales weren't even reported. So there went his advance money and it was probably used in part by Harper Collins to fend off any possible legal action by the Dutch publishers, translators and possibly BP. The advance money plus publisher's own funds.
