2005 - A memorial service was held for HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. Following her husband's death in June 1974, she requested permission from her niece the Queen to use the Title and Style of HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester instead of adopting the Title The Dowager Duchess of Gloucester. The Queen allowed her aunt to adopt the title she requested. Though a Letters Patent were never signed creating Alice a Princess of the United Kingdom. The Memorial Service was held at St Clement Danes in London which was attended by the Gloucester family and representatives of organizations Princess Alice was involved in. The service was coordinated by the Royal Air Force in respect of Princess Alice's role as Commandant-in-Chief WRAF. St Clement Danes Church is the Central Church of The Royal Air Force. It is a memoral to all who have died in service in the RAF.
