1965 - The State Funeral of Sir Winston Churchill took place at St Paul's Cathedral in London. His funeral was the first state funeral in the United Kingdom for a non-member of the royal family since 1935. The funeral was attended by most of the royal family and in a break of precedence the Queen was among the first officials to arrive at St Paul's, even before the coffin and Churchill family arrived. Additionally as the funeral service ended, the Queen followed the Churchill family out of the cathedral.
