In the book The Quest for Queen Mary, edited by Hugo Vickers, and a book which I totally recommend everyone own, Pope-Hennessy says he spent a weekend with the Duke and Duchess at Barnwell Manor. The Duke was very kind and entertaining, and he sat with the author until the wee small hours of the morning, gossiping about family. The Duchess was also delightful and in the company of Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone showed him round the gardens and grounds of Barnwell, while the two ladies imparted reminises of Queen Mary.
