I was under the impression that the Hermitage, the little farm at the edge of the park, was developed by Marie Antoinette, but it was up and running at the time of Madame de Pompadour.
I've visited Versailles twice but in the winter months and never saw the gardens in bloom. There were few visitors which was nice.
Madame de Pompadour was an interesting woman. Tough as nails as they say. She went after what she wanted and got it.
