Alexia is slim and much prettier than Amalia, so she's standing out more in the photos. Nothing wrong with Amalia, who does look very regal. But Alexia is looking at the camera instead of watching events, and the photographers love a good photo of a pretty girl. It sells. Alexia looks like she's overshadowing her sister on purpose, but it couldn't happen without the photographers. Amalia's day will come when she blossoms, and she'll be queen while Alexia most likely will marry a commoner and step back out of the public eye for the most part. Tale as old as time.

Why are the Dutch people cold towards their king? What have I missed? He doesn't have Beatrix's warmth or joie de vivre, but as her son you'd think he have more goodwill.
