It’s a wonderful likeness. It captures the character the artist intended (empathy, sincerity etc) and even, if unintended, Charles’ essential wistfulness. That the subject didn’t even sit for the portrait may give Charles pause in granting long artist sittings as his Mother did. (I think the artist’s rendition of QEII is magnificent. It captures her humanity wonderfully.)
