I think the author used wikipedia, started with Camilla and then worked backwards on her father's ancestors.

The first mention of Edrica occurs on the page for Alexander Faulkner Shand. From there, instead of clicking on the link for Joshua Wilson Faulkner, the reporter clicked the link for Hugh Morton Shand.

And on Hugh Morton Shand's page we find the words:

In 1857, he married Edrica Faulkner (1822–1890), daughter of an "itinerant portrait painter". And tsk, tsk, the source for that info is Charles & Camilla: portrait of a love affair written by Gyles Daubeney Brandreth.

So sloppy research by the DM reporter and possibly Brandreth.
