Marianne always used to discuss her disappointment that the Dutch Princesses were not gradually introduced to public duties as other Royal children. Yes, there has to be a balance between children's private lives and public lives, the other Monarchies have figured it out, Willem-Alexander and Maxima could have done the same.
Amalia had a gap year and she could have started some public engagements at that time, a few to become acquainted with protocol and the basics. It's sad because she does get lost in the midst of her mother's appearance.
