Although corruption has become worse during the past decade, its extent is being overstated as is the purported unpopularity of the King and Queen. My understanding is that they retain support among the modernists (Palestinians) but have lost popularity among the Bedu who have traditionally been the bedrock of the monarchy. Whether that loss of popularity amounts to a longer term loss of support (following the removal from the scene of Hamzah) remains to be seen.
And for the Saudis or, for that matter, the Trump administration for criticise anyone for corruption and nepotism is a bit rich.
I would be interested to know where the loyalties of the King's other siblings, his uncle and cousins lie. Various member of the extended Hashemite family are very active publicly and their sympathies will no doubt have to be calculated in the longer term, if the King is to stabilise his position.
