It sounds as if they didn't do anything to correct the errors from the first round. The explanations from the US Patent attorney's sound like the same recommendations from months ago. So what the Harkles did was try to sneak the same documents through a second time in hopes that someone wouldn't pay attention. I think an article written at the time of the first rejection stated that the Harkles lawyers were celebrity/entertainment lawyers, obviously no experience in Patent Law. So either the same lawyers are working on it or the Harkles themselves. I wonder if they're being so vague and are reluctant to specify further is because they're trying to hide some activity.
You're correct, a Patent Lawyer can get this process going and over with in a relatively short time....it's his/her specialty. I'm sure the law is 6 mon. time frame, I would have given them 3 mon.
