For example, if Diana thought the royals were going to kill her, why remain at Kensington Palace? She was given a great deal of money in her divorce settlement, she could have purchased a home of her own.
Also it was documented that after Prince Charles interview with Dimbley she felt she had to do an interview because she felt he was telling the story his way and she felt that the Morton books did not give her what she wanted. By reports at the time, she was shopping around to do an interview. Bashir was perfect because in a documentary I saw, he did not raise suspicion as he met with the princess several times at Kensington Palace as he was not known.
So my take is she would have did an interview with someone during this time and I dont think her paranoia was going to decrease, by all accounts she had some serious mental problems that probably were not addressed probably, from her bulimia and anorexia, to her suicidal attempts. We will never really know what she was thinking.
As for her sons, well they had to live with her through this. Obviously they worshipped their mother and she could do no wrong in their eyes, so to them of course, anything saying otherwise is the wrong thing, because its not their mother's fault about what happened to her in the end.
