Yes. That's why I get irritated when I see him referred to as the "forgotten" or "secret" Prince. He was neither. Mary and George were definitely not great parents, but they didn't hide him away or ignore him. His disabilities were not understood back then and it was recommended he stay in a quiet environment. Mary's letters to Lala Bill show she loved JOhn and tried to do what she could for him. Alexandra would have him to the Big House and play games and visit with him. His death was painful for George and Mary and the rest of the family.
