I very much doubt Jack and Eugenie would pay the Harkles the rent if they sublet Toad Hall. They'd pay directly to the Crown Estate. I'm just very skeptical that the Harkles retained the leasehold. What happens if the Brooksbanks decide to move out after a year or so? The Harkles are still stuck with the rent. My own feeling is that Jack and Eugenie bought out the lease. Maybe Andrew worked out a deal with HM and Charles. I don't know.
