Joachim is, indeed, a heavy smoker so that is a huge risk factor. Even though we don't know he may have had TIA's, perhaps one or several and ignored them. There are some who don't have any warning signs, they're rare.
I'm so glad all is well with Hollie, you were very wise to seek help at once. As we all know, time is of the very essence in stroke care.
One thing I do have to pass along, several years ago we had a co-worker who suffered from migraines and actually suffered a migraine induced stroke. She was in her late 20's and even though she can't work, she's done very well in recovering. She still has a bit of weakness in one leg, but is able to care for her small children.
I hope Joachim follows Dr.'s orders and he plus Marie quit smoking to start with.
